A BRACE FOR SARAH

It was in the early fall about two years ago, I was in my office about to begin work on contract proposal when I received a phone call from my wife. We have been married about three years, no children yet, normally we see each other in the morning and meet at home around seven P.M., so an early morning phone call was kind of unusual. I picked up the phone and asked if everything was O.K., she responded that there was not a problem, It was just that she had decided to take the day off due to a stiff back and neck.

Sarah, my wife, then asked it would be possible to get together for lunch, I immediately told her absolutely yes, thinking that maybe we would have one of those very intimate lunches. Sarah described the pain as stiffness and burning on the left side of her neck and down the middle of her back. Dr. Brown inquired as to any possible causes, falling, sports, all the normal questions, Sarah informed him that there was nothing she could associate with the pain.

Dr. Brown began to examine Sarah's neck, he touched her gently and asks her to indicate the intensity of the pain, and he then assisted her in moving her head up and down, then side to side. He checked her arms and inquired if there had been any numbness, Sarah indicated there had been a bit of numbness in one arm, Dr Brown asked how long she has had the numbness and pain. Sarah replied " about a week, this time". I looked over at her and asked what she meant by this time, she explained that several times in the past she had experienced this sharp burning pain and muscle tightness, but each time it was short lived.

Dr. Brown proceeded with his examination; he scheduled Sarah for X-rays and a MRI to be done later that day. We discussed a few possible causes, but Dr. Brown indicated that we would have to have the results of the test to make the best diagnosis. The doctor provided us with information on muscle strain and instructions to apply ice the injury. Dr. Brown gave Sarah a prescription for medication, a special pillow and to be fitted with a firm foam cervical collar. The doctor instructed Sarah to stay home from work and follow the muscle strain instructions, also to wear the collar as much as possible to help with the muscle inflammation.

We had time to fill the prescriptions and have Sarah fitted with the collar before the x-rays and MRI. As we left the orthopedic store where Sarah was fitted for the collar I asked if the collar helped, Sarah replied" you can't believe the relief, I may look silly but if feels great." I leaned over and gave her kiss and told her that she didn't look silly at all and as a matter of fact she was beautiful and she excited me very much. Sarah looked at me with a passionate smile and said " I excite you, that's the best news I've heard all morning' then she began kissing me, she thrust her tongue in my mouth and reached down to feel my erection. Sarah sighed with passion, and said she let's get the tests done so we may spend the afternoon together.

As we headed home after the tests I asked Sarah how she was feeling, she said that the medication was helping but the support from the collar was making the biggest difference. She had to remove the collar for the test and the x-ray tech had put her in some very uncomfortable positions, which aggravated her injury. I reassured her that we would be home soon and would be relaxing comfortably in no time. During the drive home I kept looking at Sarah, I was happy she was feeling better and looked forward to taking care of her.

I began to wonder if Sarah had any fascination with neck braces, if the feel, the look and the sensation of having your head supported excited her as it did me.
